I really appreciate the easy functionality of Dedoose. As with any tool, there is always a learning curve, however, with Dedoose it is far easier to learn to use the basic tools than other data analysis software I have used. Importing data, analyzing, coding, etc. are rather easy and dynamic. Dedoose’s ability to integrate mixed methods makes it really powerful.
I first used Dedoose as a Research Assistant in a doctoral program, with my assigned task being to “figure out how it worked” for a federal grant. I was amazed with how simple the app was to learn. Afterwards, a faculty member asked, “Have you ever considered working for this company?”. Dedoose has been a game-changer for my research! It speeds up data analysis and writing, making my entire process smoother. We used Dedoose to survey 150 volunteers who participated in a youth soccer league. The Board gained useful insight for key volunteer focus areas which drove fact-based discussion and actionable next steps. The final report was well structured, visual, and included summary "key findings" - all of which helped us share the results (and new plans) credibly through the organization. I hope we use Dedoose again soon to mark our progress after 2 years!
I love Dedoose! It is easy to code and easy to use in a group. Also, because it not an app that sits only on your laptop, its knowledge is not interrupted by the way data sits on your laptop, which is a non-trivial advantage.
Dedoose is the magic sauce of mixed methods research. Whether analyzing research videos, interviews, focus groups, or extended responses on surveys, Dedoose is amazing. It's intuitive to use and flexible. Once uploaded and coded, one can come back to the data again and again, with emergent questions and gain new insights.
We hired the Dedoose team to conduct research for the largest AYSO soccer region in the US. I didn’t really appreciate the term “mixed methods research” until we got into question design, allowing for multiple methods of getting to participant concerns, behaviors, and actions. I began using Dedoose during graduate school and it opened up new analytical possibilities in both individual and team-based projects. I think the best feature about Dedoose is its mixed methods capability through linking memos with descriptors. I also think that code co-occurrence is fantastic. It creates new ways of representing your coding, which is almost always generative of new ideas for your project. It is also a way to produce network data from qualitative work.
Dedoose’s simple yet customizable platform allowed me to organize and categorize a substantial qualitative research project. From one data collection phase, Dedoose helped me produce a dissertation, book, and several peer-reviewed journal articles.
